Saint Anthony Park Block Nurse Program

The Saint Anthony Park Block Nurse Program helps seniors live at home independently as long as they can.
For over 25 years a corps of nearly 100 volunteers has been helping older residents of the St. Anthony Park neighborhood in St. Paul, Lauderdale, and part of Falcon Heights to stay healthy and remain safely in their homes. We do this by providing access to neighbor-based volunteer and professional staff who provide integrated health and social services. educational programs, and advocacy. We also provide supportive services to caregivers of elderly friends and relatives.
This model of neighbors helping neighbors was started in 1981 by a group of visionary members of the community, with help from health-care professionals. Since that beginning we have served over 3000 seniors in our area. Our program, the first of its kind in Minesota, has become a model for programs elsewhere.
We advocate for seniors by educating service providers about neighborhood-based home health care and by promoting the inclusion of long-term care in insurance coverage.
